June 22nd Scouting Trip

My dad, brother, and I just returned from our scouting trip this week to look for some bucks in the area I have a tag for. We found a lot of animals, except we didn’t find any good bucks. All we saw were a couple forked horns. We think that the deer haven’t moved into the high country yet because of the snow. There were a couple snow banks we ran into that were at least 10 feet deep. My brother and I hiked in on a trail about 5 miles, and since there was too much snow the animals weren’t living that high yet, so we ended up hiking back to the truck. We hiked about 10 miles in 5 hours. My legs were shot the next day haha.We are planning on going out to scout again in about 3 weeks, so hopefully the majority of the snow has melted by then…

Here are some videos and pictures of some bulls, sheep, snakes, and someone’s dead horse that we found. Other than the lack of deer, it was a pretty fun few days of scouting.

Here are a couple bulls that we found. The top one is gonna be a big bull once his tops fill out… And the bottom one is a 7x6. It looks like he’s about a year away from being a serious bull, but I would shoot him this year if I had a tag haha.

The top bull is going to be a 7x6. He would score higher if he had longer main beams, but he’ll probably score around 320 or so… And the lower bull is a nice 6x6 that will score around 330 or so…

These stupid young bulls were about 1 step from falling of this 40 foot cliff. It was crazy to see something do that besides a sheep….

  1. Even though there were still some snow banks, the weather was still better than last trip.

  2. Lol no kidding... Hopefully it heat's up to like 100 degrees haha. That'll push the deer and elk up to the top where we want them lol..
